Dried Corn on the Cobs - The Perfect Treat and Entertainment for Backyard Squirrels!

Picture
Picture
There are so many cool squirrel feeders now that will keep them entertained and away from the birds.

Making them work just a little bit for their supper is good for their teeth and gets them thinking creatively, plus is also very entertaining for you!

I love the idea of this wheel that you attach to a tree or fence post and you add dried corn on the cobs.  The squirrel will chew off the kernels and give their teeth a good workout.

Then there is the cute tractor that holds a couple of ears of corn that is decorative and functional.

It can be hard to find feeders such as these in the local bird food store where they mostly supply critter proof feeders, but you can get many cool ideas online or even make your own.  This is a cheap way to add entertainment to your yard as well as keep your birds happy.

You can simply use fresh corn or get the dried corn which is awesome especially in the colder weather, they lover to chew on it and will tend to stick around so this makes them more entertaining.  You can get the dried ear corn online as seen below.

Chair Cob Feeder

You attach these to a tree or post away from your birds feeding areas and there is a nail that you feed the cob onto that keeps it strongly attached.  The squirrel ends up sitting in the seat and enjoying chewing on the cob.

You don't have to spend a lot to attract the attention of those squirrels and even chipmunks.  You can get these really cool feeders online that support corn cobs and even buy the cobs online, or you can also make your own feeders.

You want them to work a little bit for their supper but watch them enjoy the food as well.  They are an affordable way to keep them away from your birds.  Make sure you put some room between the bird feeding station and the woodland creatures and then sit back and enjoy the action in your yard.

These cobs are securely attached to the feeders, but you will always get that one squirrel that tries to pull it off, they eventually give up and simply sit and eat.  I actually love the tractor one with the two cobs.  So, expand your shopping to online and you will see some really cool bird feeders too.
