Squirrels and Chipmunks Can Add Some Fun to Your Yard
Find Peace and Harmony in Your Yard!
Before you hit the back button declaring this person must be nuts to cater to squirrels, hear me out!
I absolutely love feeding birds, and have been a bird lover since I helped my dad fill his backyard feeders decades ago. I remember him trying to come up with all kinds of ways to scare off the squirrels that kept eating his expensive food and kept the birds away.
Squirrels are Smart!
But those squirrels that he considered "pests" always came back and are smart. So unless you want to spend your days outside hiding behind bushes to scare away the chipmunks and squirrels or net your entire yard, maybe it is time to bring peace and harmony to your yard and work with them instead of against.
Give Squirrels Their Own Feeder - Keeps Them Off Your Bird Feeder
This is seriously entertaining and give the squirrels a bit of a workout.
They are smart little critters, and the best way I have found to deal with them is to give them their very own feeders. I continue to use squirrel proof bird feeders just in case they try to migrate over to them, but in the end I found once they had their own little area, they returned to it often and left my birds alone.
You may not want to spend the extra money, but how much have you been spending on the bird food they have been pillaging or how many small birds have been scared away?
I instantly noticed my bird food did not go down as fast, and I attracted more birds. If you put enough space between the feeders, everyone is happy!
I then noticed something awesome... PEACE and HARMONY in my yard, plus ENTERTAINMENT!
Check out the pages of my site, to see if any of these ideas would work in your yard, to protect your bird feeders and go back to enjoying the wildlife you have attracted without stress. Our backyards are supposed to be our refuge, and no matter what critter you are trying to feed, those urban squirrels will show up. They are nosy and constantly grazing and looking for food, especially in the fall months.
They do have their place in the eco system like the rest of the wildlife, so enjoy them, they can be quite entertaining.
If squirrels are a backyard critter that you love to feed, or maybe you are fighting a losing battle with them over your expensive premium bird seed in feeders, then get them their very own feeder. You can simply fill it with sunflower seeds to stay cheap or give them some extra treats such as peanuts in the shell, all nuts, or squirrel treats especially homemade squirrel food.
I did this and in less than a week they stopped annoying my birds! Just make sure it is away from the bird feeding station and they will entertain you for the cost of a bit of extra food and a feeder. You can be entertained with corn feeders as well as peanut feeders. Check out the pages on this site for more ideas!
I really enjoy squirrels, always have. So I am a bit partial to feeding them.
